About me:

Sarah Combs

Graphic Designer
Specialties: advertising, identities, packaging, collateral & websites

More: vegetarian, animal rights activist, sustainability supporter, aspiring kayaker, and a general enthusiast of random acts of kindness

Sarah Combs recieved her BFA from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. Over the past few years in addition to her school education she has become a design consultant and founded SimplicityStudio. Sarah has experience in identities, packaging, collateral and websites but she is open minded about all projects and enjoys any opportunity to be creative..

On a personal note, she enjoys ocean kayaking (usually at St. Marys College in Maryland), and collecting sea glass, stones and sharks teeth. Sarah is a dedicated animal rights activist and is constantly finding new ways to involve herself in sustainability. She is a vegetarian (not a vegan) and loves all types of yoga. Beyond all that she loves to read and has been known to write poetry and short stories.

GREEN ASPIRATIONS

with SimplicityStudio Founder Sarah Combs

This section of the About page is dedicated to all things green. I know that I am always trying to find ways to lower my carbon footprint so I'd like to share some of the things I've picked up along the way with you. If you disagree with anything I post here or if I get something wrong please contact me so I can make this accurate as possible.

Green Design:

Green Ideas:
There are all sorts of books floating around out there now about being Green, I recommend The Green Book (though it has quotes from celebrities), Green Graphic Design (preorder from amazon.com and it's only $14.76) and Cradle to Cradle whose author can also be seen in Green: The New Red, White & Blue. It's a very interesting documentary produced through Discovery that talks about the average family's carbon footprint: how it adds up, how to decrease it, it also discusses various forms of "eco-fuel" that I think is fascinating (not just because I'm green but because gas might reach $7!).

Last but not least, if you haven't seen it yet, do so: An Inconvenient Truth (the book and the movie), yes I know its Al Gore, yes I know they aren't his ideas but the message doesn't mean anything until somebody can spread it, so he's helped the environment a lot in my opinion. Regardless of your view of him politically it's a worthwhile movie and not half as boring as you'd expect.

Green Personally:
As for my personal aspirations I would eventually like to own my own green design firm as well as my own green home. That includes alternative power sources like solar energy and wind energy, as well as the simpler things like composting and recycling (it's ridiculously hard to find a place that recycles #3, #4 & #5 plastics).
